Guy Thomas

Guy and Kathy Thomas come to Southside Baptist Church in Fulton from Casper Wyoming, where they served with the Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board as State Missionary of Evangelism Strategies. Guy is a graduate of Boyce Bible School of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He has pastored Churches in Kentucky, Missouri and planted several churches in Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa.  

Guy and Kathy have two children.  Emily, their daughter, resides in Racine Wisconsin and works as project manager for Horizon Retail Construction. Matthew, their son, is married to Megan (Cagle) and they live in Jefferson City Missouri.  Matthew and Megan have two sons, Caleb Matthew and Aaron Evoritt. Matthew is a computer systems analyst for IBM in Columbia, Missouri.






Youth & Children's Pastor

Tyler Murphy

Tyler Murphy and his wife, Laura, came to Southside Baptist Church from Warrensburg Missouri where he served as a youth pastor at a small church. He graduated from the University of Central Missouri (UCM) with a Bachelor's in Sociology and a minor in World Religions. He and his wife got marred at a small chapel on the UCM campus in September of 2015.

Tyler is the Youth and Children's pastor at Southside. He loves fishing, his dogs, and auctions but his greatest passion is to see the children, youth, and church as a whole grow in Christ to make disciples of all nations!






Minister of Music

Kent Maberry

Kent and Lori Maberry joined Southside in 2006 when Kent was called as music minister.  Kent is also employed by the United States Postal Service and Lori is a teacher for Jefferson City Public Schools.  Kent has a BA in church music with a minor in communications from the College of the Ozarks, and additional graduate hours in communications from the University of Missouri.   In 1976, as a sophomore in college, he accepted his first church music position and has been involved in music and other ministries full or part-time since then.   He has also been a radio producer/broadcaster.

 Kent and Lori have two sons, Seth and Oren.  Seth is employed by State Farm in Columbia, Mo. and serves as choir director for Hartsburg Baptist Church.  Oren is a student at College of the Ozarks, near Branson, Mo.  They enjoy camping, hiking, traveling, especially out west, touring historical sites and museums.  Above all, they are committed to serving the Lord as a family.  They enjoy making music, singing His praises and leading others to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ through song.  “Shout joyfully to the Lord all the earth, serve the Lord with gladness, come before Him with joyful singing.”  Psalm 100: 1, 2.

Job Description & Responsibilities

CHURCH SECRETARY

 

Responsible to: Pastor and Personnel Committee

 

Responsibilities:

 

1. Greet those who come into the office, answer their questions, give needed assistance, or refer them to the proper staff person.

2. Answer the telephone and give assistance or forward the call to the appropriate staff person

3. Should be proficient in the Microsoft Suite of programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Access).  Experience in church software helpful.

4. Keep church records as assigned, including those requested by church committees.

5. Type and print the Sunday bulletins & Wednesday prayer list, design the monthly newsletter, and other brochures and flyers that are periodically requested by staff and committees.

6. Type minutes of all church committees as submitted, and keep a comprehensive file of all minutes. 

7. Send out notices of meetings of all committees as requested.

8. Operation of computer system in the daily task of organizing and implementing church business.  Assist in drafting and typing letters, reports, records, etc. as needed for committees and staff.

9. Maintain and update database of mailing lists, membership status, birthdays, and committees.

10. Help maintain church website.

11. Organize and send mailings.

12. Give clerical help to all staff and church committees.

13. Maintain a master calendar of all church activities and of all events   taking place in our facilities.

14. Schedule meetings and arrange appointments as needed for pastor and other staff. 

15. Order and maintain an adequate inventory of office supplies.  Arrange for delivery or pick up of supplies when necessary.

16. Maintain office equipment and arrange for repairs when necessary.

17. Perform other tasks as assigned by the pastor or Personnel Committee.

18. Arrange for work to be done when away for vacation, training events, or leave of any kind.

19. Inform the pastor or personnel committee at least two weeks prior to taking vacation or personal leave.

20. In case of sudden illness, contact the pastor as soon as possible.

21. Any extended absences should be reported to the personnel committee as soon as possible.

22. There will be a probationary period of 6 weeks beginning at the time of employment for the personnel committee to determine if employment will be extended.

 

 

This position shall be a 4 day-a-week position, 20 hours per week (current hours: Monday through Friday9:00 am – 3:00 pm with one 30 minute lunch break).  Hours per week are flexible according to work load and approval of pastor.

 

The secretary will work under the direct supervision of the pastor.  Special hours, changes in days off, and other such matters shall be arranged between these two.  The secretary shall exercise any and all powers delegated to her/him by the pastor.
